Today is TUESDAY tunes for 21 May 2024 …x
The Daily Chase Newsletter Podcast
Good Evening!
If you read my recent ‘Changes’ update you’ll be surprised to see that straight away I couldn’t resist STILL creating a playlist for the day! The update just said I was putting the music side of things on pause. I have done that with the well known ‘Aural Contraband Playlist’ series (temporarily whilst I haven’t any access to my database and music). However, I felt that if I cut out the playlist’s altogether that would be sacrilege and we’d probably feel completely robbed! So today I’m offering up a tonic of Tuesday’s Tunes handpicked for your listening pleasure and sought out in various places (mostly Spotify). Please feel welcome to join us here on the only subscription available which is free of charge always and forever. Thank you! x
1. Space Cowboy - Michael Gray’s Good Vibe Zone (Edit)
This new remix of ‘Space Cowboy’ is one of them moments when you see it, you think “ooh I don’t know about that!”. Obviously the David Morales remix is cemented into the history of the song and to date nothing has ever touched it. This new remix by Gray though takes the track in another direction. Keeping the original funk, soul undertones of Jamiroquai, he takes us on a 122 bpm ride of funky disco rhythms laden with hi-pitched synths, a soul oozing chord melody and groovy drum pattern that sits relaxed allowing the emphasis on Jay Kay’s vocal and new worked bass line to do it’s thing. A nice alternative to the dance floor classic we all know and love.
2. Beatsbyhand - Say Yes feat. Rona Ray (Jimpster Remix)
Also check out the Jimpster Extended Remix. Marking his debut on Stay True Sounds, acclaimed producer and DJ Jimpster delivers his signature take of beatsbyhand’s ‘Say Yes’. One for the dancefloor, the reinterpretation of Floetry’s seminal hit gets the Jimpster touch, resulting in up-tempo cut that transforms a neo-soul classic into a house anthem. Having headlined the label’s debut London show back in 2023, the UK-born producer now lends his production prowess to the imprint for the first time. A fresh take for house enthusiasts and beyond, the track is a celebration of music and its unique ability to unite artists and genres.
3. Sebb Junior - Down In My Heart (Radio Edit)
After a few years of silence, the label FVR Street is back, returning ten years on from its inception to introduce the Vinylitudes series: a selection of the best tracks carefully curated from the catalogues of FVR Street and its sibling label La Vie D'Artiste Music. A swell fusion of deep house and disco-house, sprinkled with a nostalgic, tactful French touch, the likes of 'Breathe', 'I Wanna Go' and 'Down In My Heart' nail the balance of ingredients between broken-record repetitiousness and sampledelic funk necessary to fulfil the intersection of both sounds. Also watch out for He’s So Good by Sebb Junior is a serious hand in the air house banger that will tantalize your eardrums and make you move! It is an uplifting, drum driven track with memorable vocal hooks! It’s rhythmically and musically exciting, yet straightforward in underground simplicity.
Believe it when we tell you, “He’s So Good” is that Gospel inspired heat that will rip dance floors apart!!!!
4. Pahua – Espantapajaros – feat La Perla (Poirer Remix)
This remix of ‘Espantapajaros’ by Quebec producer Poirier is the pick of the bunch so far that we’ve heard. Featuring the sultry vocals of La Perla, this flute-led groove is so grooving it enchants you. Low-slung, fiery drums roll and capture whilst airy pads dance in the space left by all this Latin charm and funk.
5. Seth Troxler and Franck Roger remix Blaze classic ‘Lovelee Dae’
West London label Slip ‘N’ Slide continues to refresh the classics as Seth Troxler and Franck Roger deliver remixes of the 1997 Blaze favourite ‘Lovelee Dae’. An iconic artist who needs little introduction, Seth Troxler’s name is synonymous with American house and techno of the last two decades, with his formative years in Detroit shaping his sound before moving to the techno capital of the world Berlin. His ventures as a label boss, and club owner of Night Tales, further cemented the talent as an underground hero, and he now joins the likes of Carl Craig, Roman Flügel, and Isolée in giving ‘Lovelee Dae’ an expertly crafted remix, building from minimal grooves to a grand and immersive wash of sound. Also stepping up on remix duties, Parisian producer, crate digger and label boss of Real Tone Records, Franck Roger, adding his signature beat focussed approach to the iconic track.

6. Les Nuits - Nightmares On Wax
Over the last three decades, as Warp’s longest-serving artist, George Evelyn has consistently led the charge in contemporary music, mixing electronica, jazz, hip-hop, techno, dub, funk, and soul. Carboot Soul, one of N.O.W.’s earliest and genre-defining works, is still captivating audiences 25 years after its release. To celebrate this milestone, a vinyl classic version of Carboot Soul is set to be repressed. Reflecting on Carboot Soul, Nightmares On Wax says:
“I’m really really excited about this reissue of the 25th anniversary of Carboot Soul, it feels great to celebrate this album. It all comes in new packaging with a re-vamp of its original artwork which was done by Zulu Monk / Monkey Lee, and it comes with an unreleased hip hop version of Les Nuits, as well as an unreleased track which is a version of the De La Soul track. I recorded at the same time as recording this album. The name Carboot Soul comes from me always going to car boot sales & flea markets digging for records. Then I would sample these records, make these tracks and then go back to the car to see if the mixes were right. So it was like a full cycle of the music and the creation process which is why it’s called Carboot Soul. So it’s from the car boot, to the soul! Let’s celebrate!”
